Elizabeth C. Martinez has worked in the media industry for more than nine years with extensive experience in journalism and public relations. She has a proven strength of writing, copyediting, media placement and capturing a clients’ story. As the former general manager of The Business Times of the Rio Grande Valley, Martinez was focused on finding the most innovative and forward-thinking business leaders and stories in the Valley to keep her readers at the cutting-edge of business strategy. Martinez was named 2007 Small Business Journalist of the Year, by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Prior to her position at The Business Times, Martinez worked as a public affairs officer for the U.S. Navy at the Training Support Center at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago.
She has been actively involved in the community by associating herself with non-profit organizations, such as the South Texas Border Business Contracting Expo, the Upper Valley American Heart Association, the Women’s Business Center, and the VAMOS. Martinez earned her B.A. in communications from The University of Texas-Pan American and is currently working to earn her M.A. communications from the college, anticipating graduation in December 2009.
